We are all aware of the tons of trash in our oceans and landfills that are leaching toxic chemicals into our environment. The zero waste movement was born from people who do not want to be part of this problem.

In the strictest sense zero-waste is a mindset of producing no “trash”, either as a person or a business. The goal is to change the cycle of buying things that end up in landfill, to buying or using things that produce zero landfill bound waste.

Zero Waste International Alliance summarizes it:

“Zero Waste means designing and managing products and processes to systematically avoid and eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste and materials, conserve and recover all resources, and not burn or bury them.”

UpStream says that products makes up 45% of the waste that ends up in our land fills while the packaging that contains and ships those products accounts for another 26%.

Most of our waste consists of single-use products. For example, think about your daily single serving afternoon snack. The convenience of “grab and go” has create a throw away society without repercussions that are felt immediately.

As a Business, A Simple Planet wants to be a part of the solution. We have just launched a subscription program so you can get your refills adding convenience, and our pouches will always be returnable and refilled (not landfill bound). No Grab and Go here!

Our commitment to zero waste continues as we also reuse shipping products, create no extra packaging or marketing materials, and use recyclable bottles. You will not find branded boxes or filler, just boxes made from post-consumer products and filler that is on its second + use. Both the boxes and the fill can be reused too.

A Simple Planet is constantly searching for more ways we can improve our zero waste “ness”. We are proud of the steps we have taken and would love for you to email us any ideas you have!
