We are all aware of the tons of trash in our oceans and landfills that are leaching toxic chemicals into our environment. The zero waste movement was born from people who do not want to be part of this problem.

In the strictest sense the zero-waste is a mindset of producing no “trash”, either as a person or a business. The goal is to change the cycle of buying things that end up in landfill, to buying or using things that produce no landfill or can be reused.

Zero Waste International Alliance summarizes it:

“Zero Waste means designing and managing products and processes to systematically avoid and eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste and materials, conserve and recover all resources, and not burn or bury them.

Implementing Zero Waste will eliminate all discharges to land, water or air that are a threat to planetary, human, animal or plant health.”

Zero waster proponents think about their purchases and how any leftover packaging, containers or whatever, can be recycled, put in the compost bin, or made into something else. Before even buying something, they tend to ask, “Does it come in plastic that cannot be recycled or reused? Does it come with a lot of extra packaging that is not necessary? How many times can I use it before I will need to replace it?”

Our refill program is the heart and soul of being zero waste company. With this program we are eliminating a plastic or aluminum bottle from entering the trash cycle with each refill purchase.

We also reused shipping materials, create no extra packaging or marketing materials, and use recyclable bottles. You will not find branded boxes or filler, just boxes made from 100% post-consumer products and filler that is on its second + use. Both the boxes and the fill can be reused by our customers. There is no marketing material or extra packaging included in your shipments, simply your order ready for use. The bottles we do provide, can be reused or recycled.

A Simple Planet is constantly searching for more ways we can improve our zero waste “ness”. We are proud of the steps we have taken and would love for you to email us any ideas you have!
