Eco-friendly vacation

Sustainable Vacation Ideas

With school ending and summer on the horizon, we are all planning our next getaway. Here are a few tips to keep your vacation sustainable, so you can relax knowing you are recharging both yourself and the environment.

Bring your own reusable water bottle. Whether it's a relaxing beach vacation or exploring a new city, having water with you is essential. Instead of buying a case of single-use plastic bottles and hoping there's a recycling bin nearby, bring your own bottle to refill every day.

Pack refillable toiletries. It's just as easy to throw in refillable travel-size shampoo, conditioner, and hair gel as it is your toothbrush. Our 2.7 oz bottles are fully airplane carry-on compliant, so you can bring your favorite products and keep eliminating waste wherever you go. The small plastic bottles from the hotel can only be used once, even if unopened, so top off your own containers when you can. Not your product? Bring them home and donate them to a local shelter.

Think about location. When researching lodging, choose a central spot where you can walk or take public transport to restaurants, museums, and activities. You'll save on a rental car, gas, and parking while reducing local traffic and emissions. Better still, search for destinations already known for sustainable tourism.

Use hotel hacks. Hang up the Do Not Disturb sign and skip a room cleaning for a day or two to reduce unnecessary linen washing, vacuuming, and cleaning chemicals. Many hotels will reuse your towels if you hang them up.

Bring your own bag. When shopping for souvenirs, skip the plastic bags and bring a reusable one or a backpack. Some reusable bags roll into a pouch with a clip, which makes them perfect for traveling. Being eco-friendly doesn't have to stop at home. With a little forethought, you can live sustainably at any destination.
