Ordering, Shipping & Returns
Can I request plastic free shipping?
Absolutely. Include a comment with your order that you would like plastic free shipping.
Do you offer free shipping?
All orders over $140 ship for free within the United States.
How long does shipping take?
We can typically get an order made and ready for shipment within 1–3 business days. Under normal circumstances, shipping through USPS Priority Mail takes an average of 1–3 business days to go from California (where we ship) to the east coast, and 1–7 days by Ground. Delivery can occasionally take as long as 21 days.
Do you ship internationally?
We do. However, return postage for refill pouches is not available outside the United States. If you are outside the United States and would like to ship back refill pouches on your own, they will gladly be accepted.
How do you ship zero waste?
We reuse shipping materials that we get from vendors and neighbors. This may include reused plastic filling material.
My order seems to be lost or missing after it shipped. What should I do?
Questions about lost or missing orders must be discussed with the USPS. We are not affiliated with the USPS, and questions regarding their shipping policies, lost packages, and procedures must be directed to them.
That said, if you have contacted the USPS, filed a missing package form, and received a response, please forward that response to us so we can proceed. If they refund your purchase price, you will need to repurchase your products to have them reshipped. If 30 days have passed since your item shipped and USPS will not refund your order or update your tracking, we will reship your order.
Do you accept returns or cancellations?
We do, on most sizes and for most reasons, though we do not provide return shipping. Please read our full return and cancellation policy for details.
Can I send products as a gift or order a gift card?
Yes. Gift cards are available in our shop, and gift wrapping can be added during checkout. Gifts are wrapped in a 100% recycled kraft brown box and 100% recycled tissue.
Where are A Simple Planet products available?
A Simple Planet products are available online at www.asimpleplanet.com and through independent zero waste companies and affiliates.
Refills & Pouches
How do you wash the pouches?
Our pouches are washed together in a large group using cold water, biodegradable soap, and 3% hydrogen peroxide, then hung in a warm air dryer until dry.
Are the refill pouches safe for my allergies?
We wish we could say yes absolutely, but allergies can be mild or severe and everyone is different. Our pouches are washed in large groups of mixed products and scents. The wax writing is wiped off using sweet orange essential oil, and they are then refilled with potentially a different product and scent. If you have allergies to any ingredient in our products, a refill pouch may not be right for you.
We are not a certified free-from facility, though we do follow protocol to avoid cross contamination. For those with true allergies, we recommend sticking with the aluminum bottles.
Ingredients & Formulation
My product has a different consistency than I expected. Is this normal?
Many A Simple Planet products are runnier than people expect, though they are just as effective as their thicker commercial counterparts. We purposefully limit the ingredients in our products, which means no filler ingredients whose only job is to change consistency. It also means the consistency of each batch can vary. Flaxseed Hair Gel, for example, is naturally a watery hair gel, and the season and location where the seeds are harvested change how much mucilage they give during production. The consistency does not affect how well it works.
We formulate this way to limit potential allergens, to exclude ingredients that rate poorly in the EWG Skin Deep Cosmetics Database, and to limit the resources it takes to create a finished product.
How do you decide which ingredients to include?
We strive to keep a very simple ingredient list in all of our products. It takes resources to produce ingredients, and in an effort to be planet friendly, our goal is not to waste resources on ingredients that are not essential. Once we have narrowed down the essential functions in a product, we search for organic or wildcrafted ingredients with low ratings (1–2) in the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Cosmetics Database.
Are there any ingredients I won't be able to recognize on the label?
The only hidden ingredient in A Simple Planet products is in our preservative, gluconolactone sodium benzoate, which is a corn derivative.
Are A Simple Planet products organic?
We use certified organic and wildcrafted ingredients in all of our products, but the products themselves are not certified organic. For example, we use USDA certified organic flaxseeds to make our uncertified Refresh Curl Revitalizer spray.
Are A Simple Planet products vegan?
Yes. We only use plant-based ingredients in all our products.
Are A Simple Planet products gluten free?
We do not use any gluten containing ingredients in our products, but our facility is not a certified gluten-free facility.
What is the shelf life of your products?
Our products are made in small batches and work best when used right away. We recommend using them within 6 months of purchase, or 12 months for Clean Shampoo and Clean Conditioner.
Using the Products
Are A Simple Planet products color safe?
All of our products are very gentle at their particular jobs, and they work well with color treated hair.
Are A Simple Planet products safe for naturally white, silver, or gray hair?
They work beautifully with naturally white, silver, and gray hair. We do recommend steering clear of our Sweet Orange scent, which is naturally bright orange. It is likely fine short term, but long term use of this color may not be ideal.

Does A Simple Planet test on animals?
Absolutely not. We never test on animals and never will.
What are you doing about carbon?
